The Freemantle Sailing Club (FSC) runs a “Sailing Support Program” – which is designing to offer an exciting sailing experience to people who are experiencing life difficulty.
Run by FSC member David Nelson, community organisations have been making use of the program.
Neami support worker Oliver Wearne accompanied consumers for a sailing adventure on the Indian Ocean in early August. Oliver reflected that “we couldn’t have been treated to better conditions, with one consumer describing the experience as tranquil.”
After spending time inside the harbor acclimatizing to being on board a sailboat, David took the yacht, and Day 2 Day Living crew, out to sea and dropped the sails.
“With the engine now shut off, those on board quickly slipped into a feeling of peace and serenity.” Oliver recalled.
“One at a time participants were then invited to take the wheel and steer, making it a truly memorable adventure.”
